ABOUT THE ARTIST

Kent Wilkens was born in Nottingham, England, in 1958, while his father was stationed there with the RCAF. In 1960 the family then moved to Ontario where Kent spent most of his childhood and teens.

Since early childhood Kent was interested in drawing and painting, dabbling in charcoal, pastels, oils, etc., trying his hand at everything from psychedelic and abstract to portaits.

The seventies saw his interests in the arts fade as his major passion was taken up by motocross racing. After working in the oilfields of Alberta from 1977 to 1982, Kent then moved to Southern California where he pursued a career in home remodeling, design and drafting, and then owned and operated a used Christian bookstore.

In 1986 he returned to Ontario where he soon regained his interest in painting. 1988 was the first year his works were offered for sale. in 1989 demand increased sufficiently to allow him to concentrate full time on fine art.

In the spring of 1990 he released his first four limited edition prints, and to date has published over sixty reproductions of his original paintings.

January of 1991 found Kent in the West Bank, Palestine where he began work on a mural of the Sea of Galilee.

Kent returned to the “Holy Land” in January of 1992 to continue his mural. While there, he became engaged to a lovely missionary from Australia. They opened their new gallery and were married that spring. Rachael now manages the Gallery and does all the framing.

Kent and Rachael reside at the Gallery in Tobermory with their six very special children, Sarah, Rebekah, Timothy, Hannah, Luke and Ruth.

He looks at each of his paintings as a challenge, “to attempt to present what God has already painted, using His palette of light, on the canvas of His Creation.”
